The Ricoh RDC-300 digital camera is user-friendly for first-time buyers, yet powerful enough for the avid digital photographer. It boasts a 38mm lens with autofocus that allows you to take photos from as close as 2.5 inches. The camera provides 4MB of on-board memory utilizing square pixel technology on a 350,000-square-pixel CCD, which lets you store up to 100 images in Economy mode, 50 in Normal mode and 25 in Fine mode. The RDC-300 features a built-in 1.8-inch TFT color LCD monitor and a Still Image Recording mode. It supports a 640x480 24-bit color VGA image resolution. The camera's power switch and lens are interlinked to ensure effective shutdown and maximum lens protection. A remote-control IR sensor, auto/manual/force flash, exposure compensation and self-timer are bundled with the unit, while an optional AC adapter is available. Ricoh PhotoStudio Lite software allows you to transfer data from the camera to a PC at a rate of 10 seconds per image in Economy mode. Once the data is transferred, the images can be converted from JPEG file format into various file formats, including TIFF, BMP, PCX, TGA and PCD. Like its sibling product, the RDC-2, the camera can plug into any TV monitor or VCR to play back your images and sound instantly. The Ricoh RDC-300 measures 2.9 by 5 by 1.3 inches and weighs 7.9 ounces without its four AA batteries. $449
